A
family game developed by 4SHO Entertainment Enterprises, an
Escondido-based company, Verbosity - Tools for the Mindä
is to computer gaming what computer gaming was to the traditional
board game. Creating games with simple rules that will let
a 1st grader play with a 10th grader. Lou Ward of 4SHO stated,
"This was no easy task. Especially when both players
are learning new information at their respective levels."
4SHO and the YMCA Center have big hopes for the tournament,
saying it will create a new, exciting activity that will attract
parents, children and sponsors to the center. The tournament
model is expected to expand to other YMCA centers and progressively
to other non-profit organizations as the ideal fundraising
tool. The tournament model will make a difference to the bottom
line, while creating a safe and sane learning experience that
is fun for all ages.

Epps, community-training director of the center stated, "Most
of the children do not have a working computer at home. The
generous support of organizations such as PowerUp will give
our Inner City kids a competitive edge to technology."
PowerUp is composed of dozens of non-profit organizations,
corporations and government agencies, such as the Ted Waitt
Family Foundation, formed by Ted and Joan Waitt. Ted Waitt
is the founder of the La Jolla-based Gateway Computers. Epps
continued, "We consider Verbosity - Tools for the Mindä
to be a pivotal part of our kids embracing not only education
in a format that they understand (gaming), but by also bringing
different age groups in to one conversation of fun and education
across the board."
